Unfortunately we had our colours lowered for the first time this carnival.
Winning the toss & electing to bowl with rain threatening we managed to restrict DDCA to 108 off 36 overs with what was easily our best effort in the field.
All bowlers performed well with Lucas Wilson 4/33 off 8 & Paul Higgins 3/10 off 6 the best and well supported by Oliver Toussaint 1/17 off 8 & Ryan Eley 1/22 off 8. Two catches & a direct hit run out to Nath Chrimes also worthy of a mention.
Sadly with the bat we failed to capitalise on our great fielding consistently losing wickets throughout our innings to be dismissed for only 88 off 33.5 overs. Stephen Ryan 25 & Nath Andrews 18 the only batsmen to make double figures.
It was a sad finish to what has been a very successful carnival & the boys should still be very proud of their achievements.
On behalf of the DVCA exec I would like to thank the players and in particular coach Matt Ross & scorer Sharon Leslie for giving us their time and effort over the past 2 months it has been much appreciated, also to parents and friends who have been there to support us over the carnival thank you your support does mean a lot to the team.
We will be back next season trying to go 1 step further.
Many thanks to all concerned
DVCA Under 21's have made it through to the Wright Shield Grand Final.

An amazing semi final saw our boys home by 4 runs in an incredible match.
Losing the toss & being sent in to bat by WDCA we managed a great start with Tom Emmins & Nath Andrews getting us to 79 before losing our first wicket. Unfortunately we lost our way a bit losing the next 6 wickets for only 67 runs. Luckily for us A. Mills& P. Higgins managed to put on 43 for our last stand giving us 7/190 off our allotted 40 overs. Mentions to T. Emmins 50, N. Andrews 30 & A. Mills 30no. With the ball we were able to dismiss the opposition for 186 off their allotted 40 overs after being 3/109 off 22 overs. Wickets were shared with only P. Higgins 3/40 managing to take multiple wickets. From 2 for 109 off 22 we managed to bowl them out by taking 7/77 off the remaining 18 overs . A great team effort by all concerned. Mentions for special effort to P. Higgins 3/40, R. Elley 1/26 off 8, N. Rowe 1/24 off 6 & A. Mills 2 catches and a run out. We will definitely go in as the underdogs for the final against D.D.C.A. who have taken all before them, but I for 1 am happy to back our boys for the big dance. Would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt Ross for his amazing job as coach this season to be to able bind a new bunch of blokes into a formidable team. Not sure where we play in a fortnights time, but will advise asap. Can only urge you all as our DVCA family to get around our boys to help beat the strongest team in the last number of years. I’ll back em, WILL YOU!!!!!!

Grand Final - Sunday 1st February, 11:00, Jubilee Park Ringwood [map]
VTCA - North 123 def by Diamond Valley CA 9/205(cc)
Another great win by the the boys sees us undefeated from our 3 games & finishing 3rd.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, we were off to a great start with Mitch Barnewall (35) & Nathan Chrimes (55) putting on 58 for the first wicket, and then Nathan & Bill Jenkin(35) adding another 76 for the second wicket seeing us at 2/142 after 23 overs. Unfortunately with the wicket starting to play a little low we lost our way a little bit, adding only another 63 runs off the last 17 overs losing 7 wickets with Connor O’Leary(23) the best of the remaining batsmen. Finishing at 9/205 however left us feeling quite confident that we could protect our score.
Lucas Wilson(1/30off 8) got us off to a grand start with a wicket in the first over. We continued to take wickets at regular intervals, with all 7 bowlers used each taking wickets with Ryan Eley(2/19 off 8) being the pick of the bunch continuing his great form throughout our 3 matches. All the bowlers did a great job managing to dismiss VTCA North for 123 runs in the 33rd over thus assuring our place in the semi’s.
We now play Williamstown DCA at Preston on the 11th Jan with play starting at 11am. Having seen the boys improve with every game we can go into this match with a lot of confidence in getting the job done. Coach Matt Ross has done a fine job rotating the batting & bowling giving all players an opportunity to show their talent so that now we can enter finals knowing that we will be our best on the park.
Would be good to see plenty of DVCA support at Preston giving our lads a cheer as we hopefully win a place into the final.
See you all there

Another great win in a tight game by the lads.
Winning the toss and batting first we managed 8/176 off our 40 overs.
Tom Emmins again led the way with 68, Stephen Ryan 31 & Bill Jenkin 22no.
With the ball we were off to a great start having them 3/25. They then had a 62 run partnership before the 4th wicket fell. After that we managed to take wickets just often enough to restrict their scoring to 8/161 off the allotted 40 overs. Good bowling performances by Oliver Toussaint 2/19 off 8, Ryan Ely 2/24 off 8 & Nick Rowe 2/11 off 4.
2 from 2 should now see us in the 4 & a win against VTCA north will assure that we again take part in finals.
Great job Boys.

A great win by the boys today knocking off RDCA in a very close game.
Winning the toss and electing to bat we were off to a poor start at 3/32 off 7 overs. A good partnership between Tom Emmins & Mitch Barnewall got us to 87 before another bad spell saw us at 7/116.
A great 8th wicket stand with Tom & Paul Higgins put on 70 before Paul fell in the final over chasing runs. We finished our 40 overs at 8/194 with the outstanding effort from Tom Emmins carrying his bat 124no off 125 balls leading the way.
With the score at 2/106 off 25 overs we were right up against it until our 2 spinners Ryan (Herbie) Eley & Mitch Barnewall really put the brakes on bowling their 16 overs together for only 52 runs & taking 2 wickets. Good performances also by Paul Higgins2/33 off 8, Oly Toussaint 0/24 off 8 & Lucas Wilson 2/25 off 4 saw us home with 11 runs to spare.
A great start to the shield. Well done lads!
